Karnala-Sai-Chirner New Town, Mumbai's Third Mumbai
project, will begin surveys in 2025 with the goal of improving connectivity and
developing into a tech hub.
Mumbai: In order to develop Third Mumbai in Raigad,
which will improve connectivity and cut down on travel time between Mumbai and
Navi Mumbai, a series of surveys will be conducted in 2025. Recently dubbed
Karnala-Sai-Chirner New Town (KSC New Town), the Third Mumbai is expected to
become a tech hub, with 65% of the country's data centers expected to be
located here. Private companies were invited on Tuesday to apply for aerial
surveys and ground studies in 124 villages, covering 323.44 sq km, of which nearly
half is covered by hills, forests, and farmland.
According to a senior MMRDA official, the surveys
would begin with drone-based inspections before a thorough investigation
employing Lidar technology and other tools. The MMRDA will hire a consultant to
carry out aerial surveys, verify information on the ground, and gather
information on land ownership, including creating a map based on Geographic
Information System (GIS), as part of the survey process.
According to the official, the duty of developing a
vision document, a thorough master plan, and a detailed development strategy
for the new town will fall to a different private organization. It is
anticipated that this extensive master plan will be finished by August 2026,
after six to eight months of preliminary ground and aerial research.
In keeping with NITI Aayog's vision for India's development, KSC New Town is at the heart of the Maharashtra government's plan to increase the GDP of the Mumbai Metropolitan Area to $300 billion by 2029. In September, the World Economic Forum and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together to promote regional economic growth. In 2013, the region's plan was initially presented.
