Mumbai, also known as the "City of Dreams," attracts millions of
people seeking to establish a better future. Unfortunately, Mumbai's
skyrocketing costs have made the City of Dreams a difficult financial burden
for many.
The rent crisis in Mumbai is
caused by a lack of available land for a huge population. It is not uncommon to
find little apartments for rent that would buy you a full mansion in smaller
Indian cities.
People who relocate to
Mumbai for higher education or employment are no strangers to soaring rent in
the city of skyscrapers. However, even they are occasionally shocked by the
lengths that Mumbaikars go to in order to conserve every inch in a city where space
is a commodity.
Take, for example, the X
user who discovered a 2BHK in Mumbai's affluent Pali Hill district while flat
hunting.
Utkarsh Gupta was taken
aback by the apartment's bathroom design and expressed his shock on the social
media platform X (previously Twitter). He uploaded a snapshot of a washing
machine positioned above the commode in the little washroom.
The estimated monthly rent
for the flat is 1.35 lakh, with additional fees of 4 lakh for security and 1.4
lakh for broking.
"Only in Mumbai can you
front-load your washing machine and top load your commode. At an inexpensive
monthly fee of 1.35L!" Gupta wrote while posting the photo.
People in the comments
section used laughing face emojis to show their enjoyment. "Everything is
fair on Pali Hill," one guy wrote.
The flat in question is
posted on Housing.com and is located on the fourth floor of an eight-story
structure. It has an area of 850 square feet and is touted as having a
"affordable rent in Mumbai."
The apartment contains two
bedrooms, two bathrooms and no balconies. According to Housing.com, the asking
rent of 1.35 lakh for this completely furnished Bandra flat is reasonable for
its size.
