PMAY Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2023 : Latest Updates

Latest News on Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2023:People who don't build homes while receiving PMAY subsidies may face consequences from the government

October 26, 2023: The Union government has chosen to take legal action against those who have accepted the PMAY subsidy but have not built homes, after carefully observing several such cases. Over 889 of these cases have been found in Bihar. In these situations, the recipients of the subsidy had used it, but they had also spent the money elsewhere.  The recipients in Bihar's Bagaha subdivision have accepted the subsidy amount but have spent it elsewhere. Such beneficiaries are to receive notices from the state government, per a request from the Union government.

Benefits of the PMAY Scheme

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Pmay) initiative was introduced to fill the growing gap between the supply and demand of urban housing. Examine the following primary goals of this program:

  • To use private developers to assist in the rehabilitation of slum areas.
  • To encourage the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme as a means of providing affordable homes for the underprivileged.
  • To build reasonably priced homes in collaboration with the public and private sectors.
  • To offer financial aid for the construction of individual homes headed by beneficiaries.

PMAY Eligibility: Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Eligibility by 2024

The following is how the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation describes the PMAY scheme beneficiaries:

Husbands, wives, and single daughters and sons are examples of Beneficiaries.

A pucca house, or dwelling in the name of any other member of the family in India, is not something that a beneficiary should possess.

Any adult can be classified as a distinct household, regardless of whether they are married or not.

Those Affected by the PMAY Scheme 2024

The following categories make up the majority of the beneficiaries under the PMAY scheme:

Groups of Middle Income (MIG I): those earning between Rs. 6 and 12 lakh per year; Groups of Middle Income (MIG II): those earning between Rs. 12 and 18 lakhs per year

Low-income Groups (LIGs) whose yearly income is limited to Rs. 3–6 Lakh; Economically Weaker Section (EWS) whose yearly income is limited to Rs. 3 Lakh; and Only MMR, Mumbai, Maharashtra, EWS whose yearly income is limited to Rs. 6 Lakh.

EWS beneficiaries are entitled for full support, while LIG and MIG beneficiaries are only eligible for the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The applicant must provide an affidavit attesting to his proof of income to be acknowledged by the Scheme as a LIG or EWS recipient.

First, the PMAY Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS)

A primary factor contributing to India's deficiency in housing opportunities is the scarcity of funds and the difficulty in finding reasonably priced homes. In order to address this issue, the government created the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) as part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, which acknowledged the need for home loan subsidies in order to enable the urban poor to either construct or purchase a home.

What is covered under the CLSS plan is explained in  the table.
